Widget taxonomy
Reference: the five widget types and the Optimizely construct each maps to.
"Widget" covers several shapes. Each maps to a different Optimizely construct, read from Graph (packages/content/src/optimizely/schema.graphql). The factory never creates content types; when the type it needs is missing it stops and reports.
| Type | What it is | Optimizely construct | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
element | Placed by editors on a page, repeatable | Element-enabled BlockData (…Element), dispatched by the web block registry | Article list, promo |
shared-block | One instance referenced from many places | BlockData without element composition, referenced by a parent | Navigation menu, social share |
page-section | Part of a routable type's own layout, not editor placed | Fields on the page or article type (Article) | Article header, article body |
chrome | Site-wide frame around every page | Chrome slot block fetched by type (SiteHeaderBlock, GlobalFooterBlock) | Telstra bar, footer |
behaviour | Client behaviour or overlay with no content model of its own | None (code only), or settings on a parent | Scroll to top, video modal |
